Position Description
The Cost Accountant reports to the Controller with a dotted line to the V.P. of Sales and Applications.
Responsible for the preparation and analysis of cost reports and costing audits and assists when
necessary in accurate quoting of parts, machines and projects. This position examines and reviews
unusual cost records and ensures cost data is allocated correctly. Contributes to moderately complex
aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.
Primary Responsibilities
 Collecting and analyzing data about the company’s operational costs.
 Reviewing work orders for accuracy, correcting if needed, close and costing them.
 Updating standard costs of manufactured goods at YE.
 Analyzing cost standards and generating standard cost function to set standard costs.
 Analyzing and preparing audit reports for year-end review.
 Creating year end inventory costs of manufactured product by material, labor and overhead
 Analyze production costs and recommended changes.
 Using reporting tools, create cost quotes on product and machinery for Sales
 Recommending changes to the company’s processes and policies to reduce cost and maximize
 Perform month- end cost accounting close processes.
 Analyze inventory valuations
 Perform life-cycle cost-benefit analysis
 Communicate mistakes in the collection of labor and errors in material costs that are observed
for proper corrective/improvement actions.
 Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance preferred with at least 3 years progressively
responsible accounting or finance experience.
 Advanced knowledge of mathematics and statistics
 Understanding of organizational accounting concepts.
 Strong understanding of costing.
 Strong costing analysis skills.
 Knowledge of ERP software.
 In-depth knowledge of costing BOM’s, routings, material, labor and overhead.
 Excellent attention to detail.
 Effective communication, including writing, speaking and active listening.
 Collaboration and teamwork.
 Proficient in Microsoft Office
 Positive attitude and Team player.
