Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and directs the supervision of the employees and activities of all personnel in the Manufacturing Engineering Department to ensure continuous improvements in equipment performance, process enhancements and lean practices implementation. Provides critical support and solutions, always maintaining open communication with other departments for maximum efficiency.
  • Works collaboratively with all other departments within the facilities including production, quality, logistics, purchasing, accounting, sales, development engineering, design, testing, etc.
  • Provides input to all new product processes and actively engages in manufacturing process flow, standard work, layout, etc. discussions and reviews.
  • Participates in Automotive Production Quality Planning (APQP), Gate Reviews and
  • Works closely with Launch Engineering to review and revise procedures, W.I.’s, databases, policies, etc. as required to enhance and or reflect current needs.
  • Conducts studies on engineering proposals to develop designs for process improvements, equipment redesigns, facility improvements and new equipment installation, utilizing and applying engineering principals, research data and proposed project specifications.
  • Manages, develops, trains, coaches and evaluates department members
  • Manages the scheduling, coordinating and arrangement of materials, parts, tools and equipment as needed for capital projects.
  • Ensures the development and integration of new product/process technology.
  • Participates in the design for manufacturability review of products to meet customer requirements.
  • Recommend and take corrective action in compliance with quality audits, issues, etc.
  • Must be well versed in the effective use of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) tools and concepts to drive process improvements. These tools include standard work, KanBan, SMED, TPM, line balancing, Hoshin planning, OEE, Kaizen, etc.
  • Promotes safety through active participation and support of company safety policies and programs and initiating corrective action for recognized unsafe conditions or hazards. Reports any incident, regardless of severity, including fire, equipment damage, and facility damage to the appropriate parties. Reports employee injuries to the Human Resources Department.
  • Must spend significant time “on the floor” across all operational shifts.

Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required for Consideration as a Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of multiple problem-solving methods (i.e. Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control, Design of Experiment, Fish Bone Analysis, 8D, etc.)
  • Experience with external customer and supplier relationships
  • Experience with the Automotive OEM’s
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Automotive Product Quality Planning (APQP) process
  • Experience with the Automotive Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
