Job Title: Project Manager / Road Construction
Job Summary:
The Road Construction Project Manager is responsible for leading all phases of roadway construction projects, from pre-construction planning through final closeout. This includes overseeing crews, materials, and equipment; ensuring compliance with project plans and DOT specifications; maintaining strong client communication; and driving projects to successful, on-time completion.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide day-to-day management and oversight of road construction projects, including grading, paving, drainage, and traffic control operations.

Coordinate field personnel, subcontractors, materials, and equipment to maintain project schedule and quality standards.

Serve as the primary liaison with clients (e.g., municipal, state DOT) to ensure expectations are met and issues are resolved promptly.

Support estimating team by reviewing plans, compiling quantity takeoffs, and assisting with bid preparation.

Track and verify field quantities for billing; collaborate with superintendents and foremen to gather accurate daily measurements and production data.

Handle all project-related A/R processes, including preparing and submitting pay applications, reconciling monthly quantities, and following up on payment status.

Monitor and control job costs by approving expenses, labor, and subcontractor invoices; conduct audits at project closeout; identify and implement cost-saving opportunities.

Submit material data sheets, schedules, and documentation in compliance with client and DOT requirements.

Attend pre-bid, pre-construction, and progress meetings; interpret and communicate project plans, specifications, and contract requirements to the field team.

Develop and manage project phasing plans and secure necessary traffic control plans.

Ensure all required permits, utility locates, and safety certifications are in place prior to construction.

Manage change orders: coordinate pricing with estimating, communicate revisions to the client, and track approvals.

Confirm final billing quantities with clients and coordinate with vendors and subcontractors on deliveries and scope.

Perform other special tasks and duties as assigned by management.
Requirements:

Strong understanding of road construction practices, including DOT standards, traffic control, grading, paving, and utility coordination.

Commitment to job site safety and ability to meet PPE requirements (hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, etc.).

Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and project scheduling software (e.g., MS Project or similar).

Comfortable using tablets or smartphones for documentation and reporting.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in road construction project management or related field.

Valid driver’s license required; ability to travel to job sites as needed.
